The SPAA Program offered by MRCAS is a unique platform designed to provide students with a comprehensive development experience. The program offers structured training in specialized areas such as Kalari, Silambam, Chauu, Thangta, and other forms of Indian martial arts, theatre art, puppetry, Harikatha, folk dances of India, pottery, and folk art like Madhubani, Pichwai, Phad, Gond, and many more.

This provides students with an exceptional opportunity to enhance their skills, explore their individuality, and develop expertise in their areas of interest. The diverse range of courses conducted in SPAA, which encompass physical activity, creative expression, and cultural exploration, encourages students to gain a well-rounded educational experience during their college life. Experts in each field will conduct these courses with a meticulously designed syllabus across India. 

Spaa Silambam

Silambam 

Silambam is a traditional Indian martial art that originated in Tamil Nadu. It involves the use of a long staff or stick as a weapon.

Silambam is known for its intricate techniques and has both defensive and offensive elements. It is also considered a cultural and physical art form, promoting fitness and agility. 

Theatre Arts 

Theatre arts, also known as theater arts or performing arts, cover a wide range of creative and dramatic disciplines focused on live performance.

This multifaceted art form involves the collaboration of actors, directors, playwrights, designers, and technicians to bring stories and characters to life on stage. 

Students engaging in theatre arts have participated in various productions, showcasing their creativity, dedication, and talent on stage.

Visual arts 

Visual arts incorporate a wide range of artistic expressions that are primarily visual in nature.

This includes various forms of art that can be seen and appreciated with the eyes. Visual arts can be both two-dimensional and three-dimensional representing a broad spectrum of styles and mediums. 

The following visual arts are taught:

  • Pencil Drawing
  • Colour Painting
  • Water Colour
  • Outdoor Sketching

Stylised Folk Dance

Stylized folk dance involves the adaptation and stylization of traditional dances for stage performances and artistic expression.

While retaining the essence of traditional folk dances, these stylized forms often incorporate elements of theatricality, choreography, and presentation suited to the stage.

Stylized folk dances preserve the cultural authenticity and roots of traditional dances, making them accessible to wider audiences and suitable for artistic interpretations.

  • Kolattam

Gramiya Kalaigal 

Traditional arts include a wide range of cultural and artistic expressions that have been passed down through generations in Tamil culture.

This can include various forms of music, dance, visual arts, crafts, and other cultural practices that hold historical and cultural significance within the Tamil community. These traditional arts are often celebrated and preserved as an important part of Tamil heritage and identity.
