The Department of Costume Designing and Fashion Technology aims to shape world-class designers and equip them with contemporary skills pertaining to apparel design, research, and production. A bachelor’s degree in this field opens a plethora of career choices for Fashion designer, Apparel merchandiser, CAD designer, Fashion stylists, Fashion illustrator, Entrepreneurs, Fashion journalists, Freelance designer and Fashion choreographer. We inculcate the requisite skills, creativity, and industrial knowledge in our students to enhance employment opportunities and meet the time-to-time requirements of dynamically evolving fashion markets.
At MRCAS, students will obtain comprehensive and structural training in various areas like fashion designing, pattern-making, fashion draping, and computer-aided designing. From the conversion of fiber to fashion process our students imbibe the requisite technical expertise and undergo internships to boost their fashion prowess. To comprehend the latest technological trends, we frequently organize seminars and workshops led by industrial experts. This exposure aids students in peeking into the real world of fashion design and enables them to assess commercial necessities to start their entrepreneurial fashion journey.

MRCAS EDGE
MRCAS Edge goes beyond the University curriculum to offer students all the courses that are needed to enhance their employability in every stream of study. The curriculum is carefully curated keeping in mind the skills needed for employability and the latest industry requirements. The MRCAS EDGE offers a T Shaped approach to learning, where students studying in one stream have the freedom to attend courses offered in other streams. The students are therefore encouraged to take up Value Added Courses (VAC), Skill Based Courses (SBC) and Online Certification Courses (OCC) to gain a multi-disciplinary learning experience. The design and delivery of the MRCAS Edge Programs have been formulated with Advisors from premier Institutions like IIT Madras, TSM and leading multinational corporations.

Department Activities
The Imfashini Association (TA) has been established, comprising of the students of the Department of Costume Designing and fashion technology. This association aims to keep our students up to date with the prevailing world fashion trends and explore different forms of industrial technology used across the globe in the field of apparel designing and manufacturing technology.
We are also determined to explore the field of green fashion, promoting sustainable manufacturing techniques in the field of fashion technology. Eminent industrial icons would be invited to educate the students by conducting workshops, seminars, conference and creative fashion games. The Imfashini Association also offers additional classes on fashionable saree draping, ornamentation and accessories making, home decor product making, make over workshop etc, to enhance the skills of students. As a part of this association, students will visit boutiques, fashion houses and industrial visits in garment industry provide experience internships with highly scalable industries.
