Dr. V. Shanmugaraju is an accomplished academic administrator, researcher, and educator with over 25 years of distinguished experience in higher education. As the Principal of Manikam Ramaswami College of Arts & Science, Madurai, he provides visionary leadership in academic excellence, institutional quality assurance, research promotion, innovation, and strategic development.
A specialist in Bioprospecting and Microbial Biotechnology, he holds postgraduate degree in Gene technology, Ph.D. in Biotechnology and has qualified the State Eligibility Test (SET). His academic career spans leadership roles including Principal, Dean, Head of the Department, Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor, reflecting his progressive contribution to higher education.
He has served in reputed autonomous institutions, notably Dr. N.G.P. Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, where he played a pivotal role in NAAC accreditation, Autonomous Status, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), NEP implementation, and NIRF initiatives. As Dean, he successfully coordinated academic and student affairs for over 7,500 students and 350 faculty and staff members, demonstrating exceptional administrative and leadership capabilities.
He has secured research grants from premier funding agencies, including UGC, DST, DBT, ICMR, SERB, ATAL, and TNSCST, besides generating consultancy support through industry and institutional collaborations. He has facilitated 18 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with academic institutions and industries, strengthening research, innovation, and skill development initiatives.
A dedicated researcher and mentor has published 25+ research papers, guided 6 Ph.D. scholars and several M.Phil. scholars, and serves as a Ph.D. examiner and doctoral committee member for leading universities. He has delivered numerous invited lectures, chaired national and international conferences, organized major academic events, and serves on several academic councils, Boards of Studies, governing council and professional bodies.
His contributions to higher education have been recognized through prestigious honours including the Indian Academy of Sciences Summer Research Fellowship (INSA-SRF), Best Faculty Award, Best Reviewer Award, and the University Gold Medal in his Master’s programme. Combining academic scholarship with transformational leadership, Dr. V. Shanmugaraju is committed to nurturing a learner-centric academic environment, fostering interdisciplinary research, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, strengthening industry partnerships, and advancing institutional excellence in alignment with national educational priorities.
