The Department of English at Manikam Ramaswami College of Arts & Science celebrated World Book Day on Wednesday, 23rd April 2025, with the theme “Books are uniquely Portable Magic!”.
The session commenced with a preamble by Dr. K. Sasirekha, Asst. Professor & Head, Department of English, who touched the old school of readers(book readers)and present generation of readers as visual readers and auditory readers. Followed by
the book presentations began with a
Tamil segment, where:
– Dr. R. Revathi, Head, Department of Tamil, elaborated on the creation of her book “புத்தகம் பேசுகிறது” (The Book Speaks),
– Succeeded by Dr. T. Ananthavalli, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil, who reflected on “உணர்வின் மொழிகள்” (Languages of Emotions) as an author.
In the English segment:
– Dr. L. Monica Lilly presented “I Exist: Coelho’s Compass”, a thought-provoking analysis of personal discovery as a happy journey of authoring the book and resilience inspired by Paulo Coelho’s works.
– Prof. K.R. Surendran reviewed the internationally acclaimed book Ikigai, offering insightful interpretations of finding purpose in life.
– Dr. M. Padmavathi, Principal, MRCAS, inspired the audience with her review of The Magic of Thinking Big, emphasizing the importance of self-belief and vision.
The highlight of the great event was a comprehensive epilogue by Dr. N. Asokan, Dean of Academic Affairs, who highlighted the prominence of reading habits and provided reflections under the title “Great Authors and Their Books”.
Director T. Kalaiselvan appreciated the presenters and motivated the faculty members to take inspiration from the event and venture into publishing their own books.
The World Book Day celebration was an intellectually acclaimed experience which provided an opportunity to everyone to think about the transformative magic of books.
